AGM:
Committee members appointed see committee
It was decided that while we would continue to hold competitions at Tower Farm we would also hold a Mini Points series of three mid week dressage evenings at Almondell as well as a competition at Fielding.  Details will be posted shortly.

The Annual show was agreed for Sunday 14th August and provided we can have the use of the hayfield this will be held at Almondell again.  While we are looking for help to run all of our planned competitions this is the one which really does require many hands to run it so if you can help in any way (or know a friend who can) please let Isabel know - no reasonable offer will be refused.

Now the weather has finally turned spring like Joy will be holding her weekly schooling sessions starting Wednesday 17th May and these will continue throughout the summer.  Please contact Joy on 01506 882452.

Next club event 28th May dressage at Almondell.

I you have not paid your subscription and it remains unpaid your name will be removed from the membership list.

Area 1 News

The Area 1 AGM was held at the Cartland Bridge Hotel on Sunday 31st October. Thank you to all the clubs who attended. We had some good discussions ,and made plans for the following year.

Jennifer Rentoul and Sandra Lamb will continue as Chair and Secretary , respectively for another three years, with Nesta Gililland continuing as Area 1 Representative.

The Area Treasurer, Chris Hall, retired and Fiona Hunter has taken over.

Fiona is a past treasurer of Gaerloch Riding Club.

This month West of Scotland have hosted the Winter Dressage Qualifier, and Lothians the Novice Winter Show Jumping Qualifier. Many thanks to the host clubs, and I hope all participants had an enjoyable day.

Qualifier dates:
29th May : Summer Novice Dressage
5th June : Open Dressage
19th June : Summer Show Jumping and Style Jumping

Horse Trials: All clubs will be contacted once we have the date of those being run by Area 22. They plan to hold the trials at Strathallan in June. We also have an invitation to return to Beamish ( Area 2).

At the last National Executive Meeting it was decided to re instate the three week deadline for Preliminary Entries. This will come into force on the 1st January.

The Area committee plan to introduce a ‘ Team Dressage with Jumping’  league for Area 1 Clubs. This will consist of a competition early in April 2011. We will start with Nursery Novice sections. As the summer dressage and show jumping Qualifiers are team events, they will be incorporated into the league. We plan to hold a final dressage and show jumping event in early September….so get practicing!!! The prizes will be training vouchers.

A fact sheet and rules will be available to all clubs in due course

Headquarters have advised that teams who have to stay an extra night at a Championship due to travelling distance will not have to pay that night’s stabling. Headquarters have also advised that as long as a horse/pony has the first three inoculations in sequence, and the last five years are correct, that equine will be allowed to compete. This will help those equines who have had numerous owners!!

Congratulations go to Dawn Harris from Tannoch Stables Riding Club, who has been awarded the Leo Harris Award for outstanding commitment to the Riding Club movement.

Area 1

Dear Riding Club Members,

As you should all be aware, Area 1 have been forced to cancel their Novice and Intermediate Area Horse Trials due to lack of clubs coming forward to help run the event.

We may have a couple of options.

Area 22 would allow us to run with then at Burgie. It may also be possible to run with Area 2's Horse trials at Beamish in County Durham.

We as an Area need to think hard about what we want to happen about this competition as it is only possible for us to use one venue.

We will have to abide by the host clubs rules regarding helpers and this could mean that you will be required as a club to send helpers even for individual entrants.

We need to hear your views , we will try and accommodate the majority. Please put this matter to your members and get back to me and I will pass your emails on to the rest of the committee. The deadline for you to reply to me is 7th May2010. Regards Sandra Lamb. sandralamb2@googlemail.com

Area 1 News

Well, just as we all get back on board, and try to stay there(!), down comes the snow again. It really is a bit of a challenge, however there are compensations for those of use who do not have access to an indoor school…..no farrier for at least six weeks , and vastly reduced feeding ..although the treasures are munching their way through an inordinate amount of hay/haylage!

The first Area casualty was the Winter Show Jumping. Realistically, no one was ready…..so the 2011 competition will be the 27th November 2010.

It is with great regret I have to report there will be no Novice and Intermediate Horse Trials this year. We had a venue booked, but no one came forward to take overall control of the set up. I have a great deal of sympathy with this, as I have run two Horse Trials myself, therefore know what is involved. There is no doubt that , generally, we are all spoilt with the luxury of the ‘prepared ‘ venue….turn up, and it all happens. I cannot stress strongly enough that we are in great danger of loosing all expertise, knowledge, and the camaraderie that comes from being involved with an amateur event . There is a great deal of help to hand, and much fun also.

So, onwards…I am very grateful to the clubs who have volunteered to help with the Area training this year…please pay attention to the SEA web site for details. Not all the training involves horses. Edinburgh and District are organising First Aid…please contact caroline.pennycook@scottishwidows.co.uk for details of the course on 6th March. Kilmacolm have organised another Health and Safety Roadshow with Bill McKinley. You will have received the Rider Magazine, and will have noticed the article about the Club Welfare Officer. This is now something Clubs cannot ignore. Bill explains the role…and at a previous ‘Roadshow’ in the East, reassured many! Bill has produced a CD which covers all the aspects, including Risk Assessments. It is important to remember that if your club runs any competition under the umbrella of ‘Riding Club’, you must ‘take all reasonable precautions’ to ensure the safety of your competitors. These ‘precautions’ change/ increase according to the on going legislation, which is why we are trying to help.

On a more cheerful note, many clubs have seized the inclement weather to have some interesting evenings…Almond have organised massage sessions and ‘core stability’ workshops..

The BSJA sessions at Ingliston have had members from Stranraer, Ayr and Lochgilphead attending, despite the weather, and Dalkeith Equestrian are in the process of putting together a training day at Dalkeith Park on 31st May, hopefully with Les Smith and Louise Milne Hume.

Kilmacolm have organised a One Day Event at Houston on the 29th May. This will be held on the old Horse Trials course and will be for Nursery Novice and Novice (Intro). The xc section will be over approx 12 fences, including ditches, water and banks.

There will be SJ and XC training for Pre Novice, Novice and Intermediate on the 30th., at Houston.

Finally, the Area Hunter Trials are to be held on 28th March. Ayr are running this. Please do give them support, as they have continually committed themselves to the support of the Area. The schedule will be sent to all secretaries in due course and will be on the SEA web site.

..Best wishes to you all.

The Devon Leisure Facility

As some folks may know, the recent occupier of DLPEC has now vacated the premises so the centre is empty at present.

Clackmannan Council are holding a meeting to discuss the running of the centre and apparently there is some interest from various parties in taking the centre over - hopefully for equestrian use.

We would encourage members and non- members to support the use of Devon as an equestrian facility and in that respect, we would ask that you take a couple of minutes of your time and write to the Chief Exec of Clackmannan Council (name and address below) to give your support in it being used as as an equestrian facility.

New British Dressage tests for 2010
British Dressage have announced changes to the tests used in affiliated competitions. With effect from 1st January 2010, there will be four new tests and three existing tests will be withdrawn.

New tests

Tests being withdrawn

It is very important to note that (for the first time as far as I know) British Dressage has had to re-use test numbers. Novice 24 and Novice 39 were published in 2002 and withdrawn some time ago. So be careful that you have the correct version.

All the new tests are available now at www.dressagediagrams.com.

News May 2009

Following the success of our evening dressage at Tower Farm we had hoped to repeat this fixture in May however we were not able to find a suitable date.  Our next fixture will be at Fieldings on Saturday 20th June.  We are again offering five classes from Prelim to elementary.

For members points gained in all competitions count towards the Hayward Trophy for Dressage:
Won last year by Heike Williamson and Pride of Galway - runner up was Kirsty Scotland and Arctic Gold......Congratulations

We are always grateful for any help on competitions and even if you are unable to compete please try to give an hour or two to assist with the running of the competition.

Summer schooling sessions at Almondell with Joy Maclean have now commenced; this year offering both flat work and jumping coaching for anyone interested.  All lessons will be for small groups (approx 4 people) and will cater for all standards. Call Joy on 01506 882452 direct for further information.

At the end of the season a small confined competition will be held for those who have taken part in Joy's lessons so that you can judge the progress you have made.  This is expected to consist of two tests - a Walk & Trot and a Prelim test - further details later this year.

The Club will be entering teams in the Area Qualifiers again this year and one definitely confirmed date and venue is 18th and 19th July at Strathaven - 18th July Novice Dressage and Riding Tests - 19th July Open Dressage.  If you are interested and wish to be considered for a team please contact Joy or Isabel as soon as possible.  We are also required to supply helpers to assist with the running of these competitions so if you are not riding please consider offering to do this.  If we do not have volunteers for this task the Club's entry in the competition will be refused!
